The Season of Giving: 1% for the Planet

It’s the season of giving, which means it’s the perfect time to share with you how Hydaway is committed to giving back to our community and our earth. As members of 1% for the Planet, we pledge to give 1% of our sales back to organizations that work towards protecting things such as the climate, land, our wildlife, and more. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to support important projects that improve our world.

This Giving Tuesday, we thought it would be fun to talk about who we are able to support by being a 1% for the Planet member and how our contribution helps each of them!

Adventure Scientists

Based in Bozeman, MT, Adventure Scientists is an organization that ventures into remote locations in nature to collect data for their conservation partner companies. Their goal? To be the connection between the conservation and outdoor communities. They do this by efficiently providing hard-to-obtain environmental data while growing an incredible team of volunteers. Piece of cake, right? If you’d like to contribute to their mission, you can do so here.

Deschutes River Conservancy

Giving to the Deschutes River Conservancy is important to us because the Deschutes River runs right through our headquarters of Bend, Oregon! They work endlessly to help restore streamflow and improve the overall water quality in the Deschutes River Basin. Because water levels vary greatly throughout the year, it can be difficult to maintain a consistent streamflow. This causes the overall health of the river to be quite low, resulting in unhealthy habitat for fish and wildlife. Don’t like the sound of that? Neither do we! You can donate here.

Ocean Blue Project

We’re now moving from rivers to oceans. So, what does Ocean Blue Project do? The short answer: they clean beaches. Their ultimate goal is to improve urban water quality, which they’re working towards by educating others on the environment and restoring beaches and wildlife habitats. Most recently, they worked with the state of Oregon to create the official state holiday of Oregon Coast Cleanup and Awareness Day. If you want to join in on their efforts, you can host a beach cleanup in your state or give financially here.

Plastic Oceans

Of the 150 million tons of single-use plastic that is produced each year, eight million tons of it ends up discarded in our oceans. Plastic Oceans is working to change that. How? They’re challenging society’s perception that an object made from plastic is disposable by encouraging others to reuse single-use plastic. They even made a movie about it to help increase awareness! Giving to Plastic Oceans helps keep the conversation going about rethinking plastic. There are many ways you can get involved, including hosting a screening of their film or providing a monetary donation.

Plastic Pollution Coalition

Similarly to Plastic Oceans, the Plastic Pollution Coalition is working to reduce plastic waste and pollution. If plastic waste continues at the current rate, our oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weight by 2050. It’s a scary thought! To combat this, they work on promoting a plastic-free lifestyle, or at least doing what you can to take steps towards using less plastic. You can donate to their efforts and take the pledge to refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle. A great first step is choosing to use a reusable water bottle like Hydaway!

Upper Deschutes Watershed Council

Last but not least is the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council, another organization located  in our backyard! They’ve been around since 1996, and continue to work toward protecting and restoring the Upper Deschutes Watershed. They monitor the watershed closely and have educational programs to help others get involved. Ultimately, they would love to see consistently healthy rivers and streams in Central Oregon. We’d have to agree! Giving to them is easy, whether you want to be part of their river clean up next year or make a contribution today.

We are so proud to support these organizations, and we hope you’ll consider doing the same on this Giving Tuesday! Here at Hydaway, saving the earth starts with one easy step of choosing reusable water bottles. Stay tuned for our 1% for the Planet series on our Instagram in December. Happy hydrating, and happy giving!
